Home hardening focuses on how the building receives exposure. Defensible-space work focuses on conditions around it. The scopes interact, but neither can be reduced to a single universal checklist.
Building-focused measures
Review roofs, vents, eaves, windows, exterior materials, decks, and junctions using current guidance. Priorities depend on the existing construction and local requirements.
Surrounding-property measures
Review vegetation, accumulated debris, stored combustibles, attachments, and access. Do not infer numerical zones from the illustration; applicable distances and requirements need a current local source.
Add a deployable exterior layer
